My puny war with tonsilitis
I rushed this evening to buy a single tablet dose of CoAmoxiclav 500/125 at Mercury after realizing I missed a dose this morning and I didn’t bring any home. I guess I looked destitute having worn home clothes that could pass as rags. Two days ago I had my sister buy one for me for the same reason – I always leave my meds at the office. Imagine my surprise when I realized the one bought by my sister was 25% more expensive. WTF Mercury. I guess it’s policy to give generic medicine to the destitute, and I could have looked like one.
Root of the story? I’ve become extremely cautious and worried that I’d miss a scheduled dose of my antibiotics. I’ve been fighting with tonsilitis since I could remember. It’s all the same. What only differed was that I took them by suspension or syrup as I couldn’t swallow tablets or capsules yet.
I’d get tonsilitis every now and then. There was a year I’d get one at least once a month for all the reasons you could name, but Vit C deficiency tops the list. My pedia advised that I had my tonsils removed, but an EENT doctor we went to wouldn’t. Over time, I’d get tonsilitis and just imagine the number of times I’d be infected and the chances I’d miss a dose rises. I’ve grown immune to several: Amoxicilin, Erythromycin, Klaricid, Penglobe, Zegen, etc. I’m actually surprised that CoAmoxiclav works even if it’s Amoxicilin as I found out.
I figured I really didn’t want to risk myself of further infection like a rheumatic heart disease so since last week, I’ve been doing the unthinkable of eating any fruit at least once a day. It sucks.
